Hamish MacPherson and Martine Painter
Martine Painter and I are choreographers, performance makers and dancers who have produced and marketed own work. Between us we have several years experience blogging and using social networks, communications planning and delivering and facilitating communications and artist development workshops.
We project managed our first piece, Meeting Place, which was performed at The Place, London as part of Resolution! 2012 working with lighting technicians, sourcing photographers, a videographer and graphic designer and studio support. We used a range of low cost approaches (including targeted approaches, press releases, blogging, video promos and social media) to produce a sellout show, gain coverage in a range of platforms and get interest and attendance from programmers, journalists, artists and mathematicians!
Our experience was featured on IdeasTap in an article on dance production and we have delivered a ’60 minute Marketing’ workshop for Birkbeck College Dance students about how independent performance makers can market themselves effectively and for free.
Dirty Dancing Events
I am also a founder of Dirty Dancing Events along with London based independent dance artists – Samantha Agnew, Evangelia Kolyra, Gabby Rose and Vasiliki Stasinaki. Connected by a passion for movement research, performance and quirky experiences we have created a series of stand alone performance events. These events aim to celebrate new and experimental work, whilst making audiences feel at home. Like a house party meets performance, Dirty Dancing is contemporary dance, off stage and up close.
